We filmed a movie! And we lived to tell the tale. Over the summer, we filmed for 5 weeks on our feature film Videovore. We captured some amazing footage, and it’s all thanks to our incredible cast and crew, and our amazing supportive community–YOU! It was an ambitious shoot, and the resulting film is nothing short of a miracle. We can’t wait for you to see it!

Right now, we’re in the post-production phase, editing the film and moving closer to the day when we can premiere it to the world. But filmmaking is a marathon, not a sprint. There are still several more steps along the way before it is ready. Once we have a final cut that we’re happy with, we’ll do the sound mixing, color grading, visual effects, and music. It’s a lot, but we knew what we were signing up for when we began this journey.

We’ve had several people reach out since production to let us know that they missed out on the opportunity to contribute to the project during our initial GoFundMe phase. Back in May, we were able to raise over $10K to help pay for catering, crafty, etc. to help fuel our incredible team during production. That was HUGE, and we’re so grateful for the support.

As we move into this next phase of the project, we’re extending our campaign to supplement post-production costs and beyond. Your contributions will go a long way toward making Videovore the incredible film that we already know it is.
Looking ahead to 2026, we’ll be submitting to several high-profile film festivals, and those will incur their own fees and travel expenses once we’re accepted. There are also things like licensing fees, insurance, and hiring a publicist to help us make a big splash during our festival run. Videovore is the epitome of a grassroots project, and we hope to make you all proud when it premieres.

And with that, we just wanted to say, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Even if you aren’t able to contribute right now, just sharing the project with your friends is a tremendous help. If you do end up contributing, or you did during our first go-around, you will have access to our private Instagram behind-the-scenes account. Now that we’re in a groove with post-production and not mired with the shoot, we’re going to start releasing photos and videos more regularly. Also, we plan to organize some early Birmingham screenings for our supporters. You could be one of the first people to see Videovore, and even give us feedback on how we can make the best possible version of this film!

The fact that any film gets made is a miracle, and especially so for independent films. Our film came to life thanks to the support of people like you. Help us push Videovore over the finish line! Let’s show the world what Birmingham film is all about.

PHASE 1 of our GoFundme campaign (May 2025):
We're making a movie this summer and we need YOUR help!
Who are we? We are Dan King and Ryan Kindahl, known collectively as Obsolete Media, along with our merry band of filmmakers from Birmingham, AL.

The movie is called Videovore and it's about a professional organizer named Charlie who is at odds with his wife Olivia about starting a family. That is, until they discover an infant VCR creature with a voracious appetite.
The movie is a throwback to 80s Amblin films like E.T., Gremlins, and *batteries not included—complete with a practical puppet character created by KreatureKid!
Making this film is going to be a BLAST! And we cannot wait to share it with you once it is done. We've assembled an incredible team of storytellers and craftspeople—the very best in the business. But that team's gotta eat, which is why we are asking for your money dollars.
Yes, we could feed them pb&js and pizza for 20 days, but these folks are professionals, which means their palates are more refined. Only the best sushi and organic, single origin, fresh ground, pour-over coffee for this crew.
But seriously. Food is expensive! We want to eat healthy. And water is expensive. We need to stay hydrated in the oppressive heat of an Alabama summer. Bottom line: we want to take care of our people. And we want to support the community.
We are filming in Birmingham for a reason. And that reason is because we believe in our city and its potential to become a destination for world-class filmmakers around the globe. We put this belief into practice by investing our production budget back into our home—including supporting local businesses. So, if you're able to throw us a couple of bones, you'll be helping make a special project happen AND supporting the film industry in Birmingham. It's a win/win!

To show our appreciation, you'll be invited to access our private Instagram account where we'll post behind-the-scenes of the making of the film. You'll also get a special thanks in the credits. How about that?
