On November 8, 2018, California's deadliest and most destructive wildfire in history rushed through the town of Paradise, CA, destroying everything.  Our dear friend and Invitae co-worker, Jo Anne Vidal, and many of her extended family, lived right in its path.  After receiving a frantic phone call from her daughter to look outside, Jo Anne saw a sky thick with smoke and the color of ash.  She, and thousands of others in the area, had no warning and only barely enough time to escape.   

Fortunately, Jo Anne and all of her extended family members (both two and four-legged!) were able to escape without injury.  Unfortunately, Jo Anne, her parents, who are in their late 80s, her son (with two grandchildren, age 3 and 5 years), her aunt and uncle, her cousin, and her son-in-law; all residents of Paradise, California, lost their combined five homes and all of their belongings.
