Victory for Viktorija

Donation protected
There are so many ways to speak to who Viktorija Vanhoy is. Every description highlights her inner and outer beauty, compassion, resiliency, joy, sense of humor, strength, hard work ethic and integrity. Growing up in Latvia until she was adopted as a teenager by Mike and Julie Vanhoy, Viktorija has already experienced more struggle than the average teenager.

Through the sacrificial love of the Vanhoy's and their family and friends Viktorija excelled in America making friends, performing well in school, working a part time job, and all the other "normal" experiences kids her age have. Not only did Viktorija grow relationally with those around her, but believed Christ and was saved as a daughter of God. She has passionately pursued Christ ever since.

Spring of 2017 Viktorija graduated high school from Lake Norman Charter in Huntersville, NC and in the fall she began her freshman year of college at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Viktorija took the new life change as a challenge and found her stride and began thriving academically and socially. It had become her second home.

However, in the early hours of Sunday morning, May 6, 2018 Viktorija was ejected from a vehicle she was riding in with friends and has suffered life threatening injuries. She was immediately life-flighted to UVA in Charlottesville, VA where she is being given the most excellent care in the ICU. Her injuries are as follows:

-Jaw, face and lower skull multiple fractures

-Shattered pelvis

-Lacerations to her liver

-Punctured lung and bruising

-Fractured elbow

These injuries are only listed in hopes you will pray specifically for each of these to be repaired, healed and a full recovery for every inch of Viktorija's body. What we are already praising God for is as follows:

-By her face taking the impact and not the back of her head she is alive    and with us today.

-There are no spinal cord or brain injuries

-That Viktorija is at one of the best medical facilities in the country

-Viktorija's first surgery today to reconstruct her pelvis was a complete success

-The doctors are being gentle and wise to not push her too much and       held off surgery on her elbow until tomorrow (5/9)

-Liberty University put the family up in a hotel and there are hopes to   stay in a hospitality suite.

-God is showing up in the details and encouraging the hearts of Julie   and Mike

That is what this page is, a tangible way to lift the Vanhoy family in the scariest time of their lives. Just as Viktorija's character and integrity go before her, it is to be said she received it from her parents. Anyone who has ever known the Vanhoy family has known love. Sacrificial, generous, compassionate, life-giving love.

This is our time to give love back to the Vanhoy family and lift them to Jesus in very real ways. First, that you all would proclaim Victory for Viktorija over every injury in her body and her mind in the name of Jesus Christ! Our God is a very big God, who is very much in control. We know that God bends low to hear the prayers of His children and that prayers move the hand of God. Pray with us that God would do, "immesurably more than all we can ask or imagine" (Ephesians 3:20) in every situation so that He will receive all the glory. That we would sing of His faithfulness!

Secondly, with the long list of major injuries above and many other complications Viktorija is going to have a very long and extensive recovery. The anticipated hospital stay is unknown but it would be safe to estimate several weeks to months long. The cost of a patient in critical care in the ICU and the many surgeries to come will be astronomical. Not to mention therapies for months once she is released. We all know the need is great and so I ask we give lovingly and sacrificially to this need.

Every one of us especially parents, ache knowing this is our very worst fear. Let us lift this burden, so that there is one less weight to worry over. We are setting an initial goal to raise $25,000 which we know will not cover all of their costs. The average cost for one day in the ICU can range from $3,000-$5,000 depending on hospital and care required and can be even higher. Additionally, the cost of surgeries which Viktorija will require in the coming weeks and months. We are praying in this financial goal that again, God would do "immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine." That by the faithfulness of God's people giving we will see their medical bills vanish.

The money you give to the Vanhoy family will be used to pay medical bills as the largest and most obvious need. As well as gas money, hotel stays, food and supplies to help them live in two places as long as Viktorija remains at UVA.

Thank you to every person that has reached out to the Vanhoy family in the last day. They are overwhelmed by your love and concern. In prayer and finances, we invite you to be a part of God's great story He is writing for Viktorija, Julie and Mike. Viktorija has always been strong and God is not through with her yet. Give what you can and then more. Pray what you can and then more.  Then let's watch God show up for our girl! Thank you all sincerely.
