Victor's Journey: From Rescue to Recovery
Donation protected
I first met Victor while on a dog rescue trip to Mexico. Believed to be paralyzed, he spent his days dragging the back half of his body on a linoleum floor, living much of it in his own filth, with patchy, yellowed fur. Surprisingly, this was an upgrade since before this, he was dumped out front of a rundown shelter in a cardboard box.
After getting to know him, and how sweet he is, there was no way I could leave him behind. I told my wife Kelli to make room for a new addition, knowing full well she would agree.
In our care, he has regained much of his mobility. With our vet's guidance, we have helped him gain the strength and balance to walk short distances and helped him learn to use a wheelchair for longer walks.
His quirky personality has gained him adoration from all those who know him. From his trademark bark-and-hop to let you know he wants to be picked up, to his happy feet dance when he knows a treat is coming. If you are really lucky, and Victor has chosen you to be one of his favorites, he will squeak and shimmy when he sees you, as he is so excited to get some affection from you.
Victor recently began sneezing on occasion. Concerned he may be sick, we reached out to our vet and got him on antibiotics. That worked for a bit, but the sneezing and snorting returned, and now our vet fears it may be a tumor. The only way to properly diagnose this is a CAT scan. Originally, we were quoted $6,000+, but after shopping around, we found a way our vet can use a mobile CAT scan, which is about half that price.
This will most likely be just the start of his medical journey, but will point us in the right direction. We appreciate any help you can offer
