Victor Mickelsen's Medical Expenses

Victor’s Story:

The first week of February, Victor went to the doctor feeling unwell.  Fully anticipating having a bad cold or flu, he was shocked to discover that his blood work had many abnormalities.  The doctor was quite concerned that the results could indicate something very serious with his blood.  He was referred to Tennessee Oncology and Hematology where they were hopefully ruling out Hemachromatosis or Leukemia.  After more tests, a bone marrow biopsy, and an upper and midsection CT they confirmed that he has Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).  Upon diagnosis (Feb 12), he was immediately sent to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center in Nashville, TN to begin at least three weeks of chemotherapy treatment.

After chemo, numerous tests, and gallbladder removal surgery, the next step is a Stem Cell Replacement.   Once he is fully in remission, his body will recover for a few weeks before he begins this next step in treatment.  His siblings are willing to be tested to see if they are a stem cell match and they were tested the week of March 6th.  It is hopeful that he will begin this next round of treatment in the next couple weeks.

All of you who know Victor and Kirsten know how generous they are to anyone and everyone.  Well folks, it's their turn to be cared for in their time of need.  As you know, cancer SUCKS and it's treatment is VERY expensive.  We've set a pretty low goal of $50,000 to help assist in the expense of medical bills and any expense related to caring for the family as a result of this terrible illness.  I looked online and the expenses can easily run $500K plus for this treatment.  Already, a $5,500 deductible has been paid. Let's show Victor and Kirsten how much we appreciate their love for us by pouring out financially for them.

Kirsten and Victor (and their family) are so thankful for great friends and family.  The outpouring of love for things like meals, caring for the boys, visits, prayers, and encouraging notes have made this awful time bearable.  We don't know how anyone can get through these times without the love and support from family and community.  THANK YOU!
