Victoria Pierce--dog lover, caretaker, voracious reader, metalhead, Finland fanatic, musician, my sister, and mensch--was hospitalized this morning with viral meningitis. Despite thinking for two days that it was a "just" a migraine, she seems to have gotten treatment early enough not to suffer any of the scariest possible effects, but she will be hospitalized for several days.

The kicker? She's uninsured.

That's why we're asking for help covering her hospitalization expenses.

Victoria and I have a strong partnership. For at least ten years, in taking care of our family, I have been the financier and Victoria has been the feet on the ground. This isn't the only reason I love her, but it is a big reason behind her predicament right now; she's been living a country life and holding on to marginal employment so that she has the time to be the primary caretaker to our ninety-something, recently homebound grandparents. It's an important task, and one that she has performed unpaid for four months while waiting for our grandfather to receive VA benefits to cover the care. Affording even the most affordable health insurance has been out of the question for Victoria.
