Victoria Park Glasgow Storm Eowyn Legacy Fund

You will no doubt be aware that Storm Éowyn recently caused considerable damage across Scotland with many trees uprooted. Victoria Park and the Nature Walk in the west end of Glasgow was particularly badly hit with over 20 mature trees falling or suffering major damage. Some of these beautiful trees were at least 60 or 70 years old and formed the green structure of the park as well as providing important habitats for innumerable birds and insects. This is obviously a sad loss and quite distressing for those of us who love our park and love our trees.

Therefore Friends of Victoria Park (FoVP) and Victoria Park Community Trust (VPCT) are working together to develop a plan to plant as many new trees as we can afford in order to repair the gaps in the tree lined avenues. This, of course, all costs money and this is where we are appealing to you as supporters and users of Victoria Park to help us raise the money to buy as many replacement trees as possible. We are currently preparing a plan of the trees that need to be purchased. Any monies which might be left after the primary task of replacing the trees will go towards other improvement projects in the park, for example an art project using the fallen timber.

Glasgow City Council has confirmed its support for this initiative. Once the plan is agreed between the Trust and the Council and the trees have been purchased, we plan to have a community planting day to get folk involved in helping to plant them.
