On 11/03/16, Victoria Grona-Mendez suffered two strokes. The strokes happened due to a tear in her vertebral artery which then caused a blockage at the base of her brain. David (being the amazing husband he is) acted fast and got Torie to the hospital quickly. Torie was able to get medical attention and was transported to St. David's in Austin. After arrival, the clot was removed and Torie was sent to the ICU. She has been surrounded by her family and friends since that time.
She has come so far since 11/03/16 and is now at Sid Peterson Hospital in Kerrville, TX where she is diligently working on rehabilitation. Cognitively, Torie is the same sharp witted, compassionate friend, sister, daughter, wife and Mom we all know and LOVE. She is able to speak and hold conversations. The strokes did affect both sides of her brain and thus she has deficits on both the right and left sides of her body (more the right than left). She is currently receiving hours of physical, occupational and speech therapy everyday and there's still a long road of recovery ahead.
Torie is a strong, humble, compassionate woman who is ALWAYS helping others. She currently works as an Early Head Start teacher and volunteers with the kids at her church. She is an incredible momma to two sweet kids, Isabella 7 and Nathan 1. She's the type of person who wouldn't want you to fuss over her but would go out of her way to fuss of you. David (Dad of The Year, seven years in a row) is super attentive to their kiddos. He currently teaches at Fredericksburg Middle School, coaches soccer and runs chess club. Really he's great! He's working a full time job, taking care of the kids/home and trying to be there for his wife. He's currently in the running for SUPERHERO in my book!
We really want Torie to be focused on getting better and give David (her husband) the support he needs right now. Torie cannot presently work and money is incredibly tight. Medical bills have started rolling in, adding to the physical/emotional stress they're currently fighting. This amazing family needs your support! Please consider donating. Any amount will be a blessing and I assure you, this family is incredibly grateful for your support. We are firm believers in the power of prayer and are asking you to keep Torie, David, Isabella and Nathan in your prayers. Thank you all so very much!
