My friend Victoria, her partner Jarred and beautiful daughter Ellie — who has multiple severe disabilities including a seizure disorder — are all ill with the coronavirus, and quarantined at home. This is while their city of Portland is under three states of emergency — the pandemic, the wildfires and the social unrest. I know them to be incredibly hard-working, but they can never seem to catch a break. Victoria was working as a CNA and going to nursing school full time while Jarred worked in construction. In August, Jarred was in a not-at-fault car accident and is currently unable to work. They have no cushion or family to help, and they will be unable to pay any bills, or make their next rent payment. I know the need in our world is overwhelming right now, but this is a family you can really make a positive and direct impact on right now. They need your help. Tori, a former foster child with a heart of gold, also has Type 1 diabetes, and had to be ambulanced to the hospital after collapsing in their driveway. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and diabetic ketoacidosis, in addition to COVID-19. She was just discharged today (9/12/2020). She is still incredibly sick, weak, and unable to function.
