STORY:
This is Laura Castillo, granddaughter to Victor P. Castillo, and we are attempting to fundraise up to $5000 for the remaining memorial funeral expenses. Anything will help and go a long way. Our abuelito/grandfather, padre/father, tio/uncle, Victor passed away in Yuba City in his sleep on Wednesday, June 1. He was born on July 28, 1925 in Tamaulipas, Mexico and he would have been 97 years young this July.  He was the son of Francisca Perez Ramos, who died when he was young and his father Filiberto Castillo was left to raise him and his three brothers, Emiterio, Jesus, and Teodoro.

Victor was a man who believed in faith and loved to be involved in the community as he participated in a local Latino Yuba City organization, El Comite de Beneficiencia that would fundraise at the local events and fairs to help people, families and the community. He was a jokester who loved to tell stories of his family, work and life adventures.

His many stories consisted of his blessings with his 1st wife, Librada and their seven children; Lorenzo, Maria, Raul, Jose, Yolanda, Holga and Filiberto. He shared how proud he was of them and how he loved them all in their different ways. He mentioned he worked for his in-laws Andres and Bacilia Garcia, in Texas; he decided to migrate the family to Yuba City, CA, to follow the seasonal migrant workers. He loved to drive up and down the West Coast, from picking strawberry's in Washington to picking various crops in Central and Northern, CA. After his daughter, Yolanda suffered a medical accident, and his wife Librada passed away, he was blessed again with his 2nd wife, Elena and his stepdaughter Araceli. They supported him for a little over 30 years and are forever thankful for the opportunities he gave them to become part of his family.

He loved to story tell about his native lands and the fruits found in Tamaulipas, Mexico. He would share how he came to the US as part of the bracero program to work at ranches and fields and help the fire departments control wildfires in the Southwest. He later worked for his in-laws Andres and Bacilia Garcia, in Texas. He then decided to migrate the family to Yuba City, CA, to follow the seasonal migrant workers working with the United Farm Workers. They worked up and down the West Coast, from picking strawberries in Washington to picking various crops in Central and Northern, CA.

Victor was not a perfect person, but I believe he had a big, loving, giving heart. He was strict with his children and families but always taught them an excellent work ethic. This man was an active person who would get up at 4 am to ensure his family and teams were ready to start work at 5 am. His children say that he was ahead of his time in pushing to continue higher education. He knew that working in the fields like he had worked his whole life was not a living.  If his children wanted to drop out of school, he would work them all summer long in the fields till they begged to go back to school. I believe the work ethic and education he instilled in his children would later encourage them to pursue their education, become a community law representative, join the army reserve, become a state electrical worker, start home health disability businesses, and become teachers. All to help others and give back to the community.

Victor lived and developed his life with what he had, what he knew and in the best way he could. He was a giving person and was always concerned about ensuring everyone had something to eat and at least their basic needs. All the ladies at his care home loved him. A humble, simple man who held a lot of pride in living in Yuba City. His wishes of living and leaving this world in Yuba City have been fulfilled. He now joins his wife Librada and his two children, Lorenzo Andres Castillo and Yolanda Garcia Castillo, in heaven. I will miss him with all my heart, but knowing that he left in peace is comforting.

May he rest in peace and paradise.
