On Friday January 27th, 2023 around 5pm Victor went to the hospital by ambulance. He was rushed into a life saving surgery. What started out as him thinking he had a kidney stone, ended up being his intestine ruptured. Because of how long he had gone with the pain, he would not have lasted till the next morning alive. The doctors saves his life.
The surgery lasted 3 tedious hours. His surgery was complicated to say the least. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him.
His incision goes from his sternum down to his pelvis. He has more than 30 staples (that I've counted). He was in a medically induced coma & ventilator to breathe for him. The surgeon said that he was not breathing at the pace they would have liked to make it through surgery so they intubated immediately. They had him on anesthesia from the time of the surgery up until yesterday afternoon.
He fought every bit of the way, but if you know him - that's nothing new. There were times when he would wake up from the anesthesia & try to pull his tube right out. Once that tube was finally taken out, he relaxed a lot.
They have him comfortable here in the ICU. They are keeping up with his pain meds, he is on a double antibiotic (he had sepsis on arrival), fluids, and other meds.
He is confined to the bed for now, he will start PT soon to be able to walk again. He has a feeding tube, oxygen, catheter, & picc line.
He's had a lot of improvement over the last 3 days. His white blood cell count went from almost 40, to 17 this morning!
He has had 6 x-rays, 4 cat scans, numerous blood draws, and other tests. They are definitely on top of his care here and we couldn't be more grateful.
I'm asking for this gofundme, as Victor has done nothing more than help friends & complete strangers all of his life. He is well loved by many, and would give anything to anyone who ever asked him.
The first thing he said when he could talk was "I haven't had enough time yet"
I have not been to work since Friday, I know work is waiting for me, until he gets transferred from the ICU to the surgical wing, I am by his side 100%. Bills don't just stop because of an emergency.
Our hospital bill will be 50% off right off the top as he doesn't have insurance. I spoke with the social worker today, and have filed the financial papers with them. Peace of mind that we have our home to stay in is priority. We have never been late paying our rent or other bills, nor have we ever had to ask for help.
This is beyond difficult to do, and if Victor has made any impact on your life, can you do him the favor in helping out so he can recover?
Sharing this would help too!!
