My name is Judy Meyers, and I am fundraising for my son-in-law, Jonathan Meyer, who was hit head-on by a careless driver who, according to eye witnesses, was driving more than 100 mph when he veered into Jonathan's lane, head-on. According to the investigation, the driver not only hit Jonathan head-on, but then his car turned 360 degrees, hitting Jonathan a second time from behind. Jonathan was life-flighted to a hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
He broke multiple bones in his face, legs, and feet, including a femur in one leg and the ankle bone in the other leg. Also, he suffered brain bleeds and a slightly torn aorta in the neck, requiring multiple blood transfusions. He lost numerous teeth and so will also need dentures. Additionally, his jaw was wired shut for weeks. He has undergone approximately a dozen surgeries, thus far.
At this point, Jonathan has been informed that he will most likely be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life due to the extreme pain he is most likely to experience when standing on his feet and legs. He is currently in a skilled nursing facility but is schedule to go home in one week from now. The news report of the accident can be accessed online at: PolkCountyToday.com (https://polkcountytoday.com/acc110323.html).
Jonathan and our son, Dustin, live in a mobile home as their permanent residence. At this time, their home is not accessible to Jonathan because of the rough terrain from their graveled driveway to the wooden step entrance into their home. We were able to provide a mobility scooter that Dustin repaired. Also, a wheelchair is being provided through Jonathan's medical insurance. However, whether using a wheelchair or a mobility scooter, a sidewalk and ramp are needed, as well as a small deck area on which to park the scooter once Jonathan has entered the home, since the doorway is not large enough to bring in the scooter.
Dustin has reached out to several organizations for a request in building materials and help in construction, but he has had no response. He also lacks tools and needs physical assistance to build the ramp. He has received an estimate of $6700 to build the needed ramp and small deck area, if done by a construction company.
The smallest of donations is deeply valued and appreciated, knowing that when many join in a cause or to address a need, the results can be powerful. With a humble, thankful heart, we ask that you donate money so that Jonathan can leave and enter his and Dustin's home throughout the remainder of his life. Thank you.
