Drew Armstrong - Shooting Victim loses eye
Donation protected
On Nov 19, 2018 Drew was waking home from his part-time job along Cundles Ave near Anne Street when a car with two occupants slowed and put on their flashers. Thinking that they needed assistance he turned to approach when he was hit with a BB gun and the pellet lodged behind his eye. He called 911. Police and ambulance attended and he was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital where emergency surgery repaired the eye lid and he was referred to St Michaels Hospital in Toronto to see an eye specialist. He has attended three appointments but is still not any closer to a final diagnosis. The eye may or may not need to be removed and the pellet still remains lodged redbehind the eyeball. As well Drew wears a brace on one leg as a result of childhood cancer. Drew chooses to support himself rather than depend on welfare or ODSP which makes him ineligible for many benefits available to those on social assistance. He can apply to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board for consideration but that takes up to 18 months to finalize. He is forced to lose time from work for appointments and his ongoing pain and debilitating headaches. Things like transportation to and from Toronto weekly, medication, ambulance and other associated costs are taking its toll. By the way the two thugs that did this are free on bail even while one was already on bail awaiting other charges.
