Electric wheelchair & care for Vicky

Donation protected
The Allen family is reaching out for your support to help give the best care
and quality of life for Vicky as she continues her battle against Parkinson's
Disease.

We are fundraising for:
1. An electric wheelchair that will allow Vicky to participate in normal day-to-day
activities such as moving around the house, shopping, going to restaurants, and
"walking" around the block.
2. In-home care so that she is safe when her husband is at work.
3. Specialty-prepared food delivery.
4. Future tools and care that will be needed as the disease progresses.

Vicky (Tomich) Allen grew up in Orangevale, CA on her father's 125-year-old orchard and met her high school sweetheart, Dan, while attending Casa Roble High School. Vicky and Dan married after college and will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary this winter. Vicky taught 2nd grade in San Juan Unified School District for 11 years and has been passionate about teaching, education, and the importance of children's literature ever since. When her two children were born, Vicky decided to give up her career and stay at home to raise them. She was active and involved in their education along with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, soccer, and rowing in Folsom. Vicky also continued to work with her father at his orchard and provide care for both of her parents for over 7 years. She has always had a passion for cooking, entertaining, and gardening- all
of which she can't participate in anymore due to her physical limitations.

Vicky was officially diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in December 2017 after
experiencing strange symptoms for many months. Over the years, the once
vibrant and energetic woman has tried countless medications and undergone
Deep Brain Stimulation surgery in the fall of 2022, to try and slow the advancing
Parkinson's symptoms. More recently, her mobility has deteriorated to the point
that she is unable to get around at all. The availability of an electric, transportable,
all-terrain wheelchair will hopefully give Vicky some of her independence back.
She currently feels like a prisoner at home because she has to depend on others
for every movement. Also, since Dan is her primary caregiver and still working full
time, the ability for some in-home care would be invaluable to ensuring that she is
safe and well taken care of while he is away. Vicky is attempting to better her life
and improve her symptoms by eating a specific diet. Having the option to access a specialized home food delivery service would greatly ease the burden on both Dan and Vicky as they navigate this debilitating disease. We all realize that this terrible Parkinson's will not go away and that the future will require additional help and tools to ensure she can enjoy her life as much as possible. We want to be prepared to have everything she needs going forward.

Thank you for taking the time to read Vicky's story. We would greatly appreciate any donations and would ask everyone to continue to spread awareness of
Parkinson's. In the U.S., over 90,000 people are diagnosed with PD each year.
