Vicky and John Smits need your help

Hello,

We are the children of Vicky and John Smits. Our parents are two of the most caring and loving people in the world and they could use a little help right now.

In March 2021, our mom Vicky was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer called Large cell endocrinton carcinoma . She started a 12 week course of chemo to help stop the cancer. Unfortunately, the chemo did slow down her initial cancer but in December 2021, she was diagnosed with multiple brain tumors which affected her ability to walk. She then did radiation to shrink/eliminate the tumors.

Since then she has unfortunately continued to be ravaged by cancer. She has needed radiation on her brain, spine, lymph nodes multiple times. She did another round of aggressive chemo which left her hospitalized. She received a round of aggressive immunotherapy as well, which in return started to deteriorate her kidney function.

Through all of this she has kept an optimistic attitude and has leaned on her faith in god to keep her going. John has been at her side the whole time and has remained strong for her all while dealing with his own health complications.

Vicky recently started having debilitating pain in her knee and pelvis. She received some physical therapy which did help but her pain and mobility continued to deteriorate.

She was recently diagnosed with a pelvic fracture which was caused by the cancer starting to necrotize in her skeletal system. She has multiple skeletal lesions which are causing more problems. She is in a great deal of pain and is now having trouble getting around the house.

Due to the placement of her fracture she is in dire need of accessible modifications to her and John's home so she can continue to be comfortable at home. Most specifically she really needs a walk in shower and modifications to her bathroom facilities. We would like to try and let Vicky stay at home as long as possible.

Vicky and John have done so much for their children and families and have continued to let God's light shine through them even though the last couple of years have been so hard. They have both overcome many things in their lives and have continued to be there for anyone in need.
