Meet Vicki..
Vicki was born in Milwaukee WI, the youngest of 2 daughters born to Louise and Raymond Schmidt. Her family relocated shortly after her birth to MN when her family purchased and operated resort in Webster WI. Vicki spent many summers of her childhood helping her mother and father maintain and operate the family business.
Vicki eventually moved away from the family resort business and began her career in the office supply industry. In 1982 Vicki started with Star Office Services where she worked in their retail location. In 1989 Vicki moved from the retail world to family owned office supply company Business Essentials supporting numerous functional areas from office furniture and returns to purchasing and sales support. Through multiple mergers in the office supply industry Business Essentials eventually became corporate Express and then Staples.
Family..
Vicki and her husband Brian have 2 sons, Brian and Brandon, 4 grandchildren (Drake, Grant, Nash and a baby girl on the way) and 3 step grandchildren (Joel, Jenna and Hailen). Vicki’s oldest son Brian and his family live in Maine and her youngest son Brandon and his family live in MN.
Vicki enjoys spending her free time visiting with her grand kids, taking long rides with her husband on his motorcycle, dinner at a local bar/restaurant and spending time with her sister and mother Loiuse who is about to turn 100 years old.
Vicki first noticed muscle weakness in her leg and issues with her speech in the spring of 2016. Through multiple doctor visits and 2nd opinions, Vicki was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in the fall of 2017.
This debilitating disease may have taken some of Viki's mobility and speech but it has not taken her spirit. Vicki continues to be a big (important) part of her "work family" at Staples and continues to work daily with the same positive, move forward attitude she has always had. Vicki plans to do whatever it takes to continue working as long as she can.
Our Goal..
Many of us (Vicki's work family) who have worked with Vicki for upwards of 20 years can attest to her loyalty, compassion and humility. Vicki is truly one of a kind. Vicki is/has always been there for anyone in their time of need and now it is our turn to be there for her when she needs us all the most.
Through this GoFundMe page we hope to raise not only the awareness of this terrible disease and its devastating effects but also raise money to assist Vicki with her many needs going forward. Those needs, whether taking a much-needed vacation to Maine to visit her son and grandkids, helping with any medical or equipment needs, or helping Vicki and her husband relocate to a different home more readily accessible for her now and in the future.
