We are raising money for my niece Vicki Kirby, who was in a life altering car accident on April 19th 2018. She has experienced extreme head trauma which caused swelling in her brain. It was necessary to perform a decompressive craniectomy, which is the removal of a portion of the skull to help give the brain room to expand. At one point the family was told by her trauma team that they felt Vicki only had 24-48 hours until there would be brain death due to the swelling she was experiencing and we all should prepare to say goodbye to our sweet Victoria. She also suffered an injury to her back resulting in several fractured vertebrae. Some of her other injures include a broken nose, orbital socket, wrist, collapsed lungs, and compression of her left carotid artery which caused a stroke. For some time the outlook for our beautiful Vicki was not so bright but as of late she has begun to make little improvements everyday, and continues to amaze her neurosurgeon and nursing staff with her progress. Recently Vicki underwent an 11 hour surgery on her back to repair the broken vertebrae with the placement of rods and screws which was a great success! Anyone who knows Vicki knows she has plenty of fight and determination to make a full recovery from this terrible tragedy. Vicki is a beautiful, vibrant 22 year old who lives her life to the fullest. She is a country girl at heart even though she could grace the pages of a fashion magazine. She grew up on our family farm milking cows, planting fields, bailing hay and riding horses. She was this tiny little girl driving these great big tractors, and never blinked an eye when climbing up into the cab to go to the fields. There is not a sport that she hasn't participated in or doesn't like rooting for. She is an avid Cavs and Indians fan, she loves tailgating for the Browns, cheering for our Buckeyes, and has also taken up golf to be competitive with her boyfriend. She worked very hard this past year and carried a 4.0 grade point average at Penn State as well. We are asking everyone out there who knows Vicki or knows of her story to please reach out and help us provide her with anything she may need medically to get her restored to full health.
We Thank You in advance for the generosity we know will pour out to help Vicki on her road to recovery.
