Vicki Harrison HarborHouse FloodFnd

Anyone who has had the good fortune to spend any time on Hatteras Island or Hatteras Village has likely encountered the wonderfully warm and welcoming Vicki Harrison at Harbor House Seafood.  She is the face of her family's business.  Her son Graham and husband Robert catch and prepare the freshest fish from the sound and ocean. Vicki, her daughter Alana, and son Robert prepare the food (oh, those seafood enchiladas!) and keep the store running.

In September, a passing hurricane grazed Hatteras Island, spawned a tornado in Hatteras Village, caused flooding and put a halt to  Graham and Robert's ability to fish at the end of high tourist season.

When Hurricane Matthew struck Hatteras Island, it dealt a devastating blow to Hatteras Village and to Vicki's family home, and to the Harbor House store.  Vicki reports the store had 4 inches of water which destroyed the refrigeration equipment that is essential to running the market.  Even worse hit was her home.  The Harrison's home (which is right next to the store) had 16 inches of flood water come through it that lingered for 8 hours!  Her insurance adjuster informed them the house has major damage.  Some of this damage is insured, but some, especially in the store, is not.

Vicki estimates that she will not be able to open Harbor House Seafood up for 6 months.

Anyone who has met Vicki, knows that the very first time you walk into her shop, she greets you as a lifelong friend. She is always first to offer helpful suggestions whether it be how to prepare what she's just packaged up for you,  or what you should see or do or experience in what she terms "paradise".  She is always willing to go that extra mile...and always with a smile.

My name is Jennifer Olive.  I live in Cleveland, Ohio, but my heart belongs in Hatteras Village.  My husband Greg Cunningham, my son Aodhan, my parents Bob and Mary Ann Olive, and I,  met Vicki and her family when we walked into Harbor House 7 years ago.   We may only get to see Vicki once a year, but our friendship has grown and (as I am sure many would agree) our lives are better for knowing her.  Vicki is never one to ask for anything for herself, but now she, and her family, are in need.

I hope that others who have been touched by Vicki, or are believers in sustainably caught, ethically prepared seafood on the Outer Banks, can come together and help the Harrison's repair the damage to their home and to the Harbor House Seafood store.  All money raised (minus the GoFund Me fees) will go towards purchasing new refrigeration equipment for Harbor House Seafood Market.

Every penny, every donation, is greatly appreciated.

(All money will be directly withdrawn from this GoFund me account by Vicki as she needs it. I am just the initiator of this campaign, and will handle the web correspondance only.  Be assured that your donation will go directly to Vicki and the Harrison family.)

Let's help Vicki, Robert, Graham, Alana and Robert restore their paradise!
