Many of you know Walter Vicente for the great wildland firefighting skills he has become known for in the Gorge. Or you may know Jenny Vicent, formerly Pulido who grew up in White Salmon. Or you know their three fantastic children...thy youngest just out of diapers. Thank you so much for those that have already helped the Vicente family with their fight against Jenny's stage IV cancer. Their struggle continues with a needed visit to Texas for advanced medical care. A group of wildland firefighters that work with Walter are doing a fund raising challenge to help out. We are trying to cut and sell as much firewood as possible in one day and asking sponsors to match a percentage of the money we raise. If we raise $1000, %10 would be $100 towards Jenny's medical expenses. A private landowner is donating the wood and we are trying to find buyers willing to step in on Saturday, May 8th. Neal Creek Forest Products is letting us borrow their delivery truck and Solstice Café has already pre paid for two cords. Please keep Jenny and the family in your thoughts and if possible help us with this challenge.
Some questions people might have, these are standard protocol to ensure no one is trying to scam the go fund me system:
1. Who you are and where you’re from: I'm Roland Rose, I have fought fire with Walter for over ten years and live in Hood River, Oregon.
2. Your relationship or contact to the intended recipients of your fundraiser's donations. If you've added a beneficiary to withdraw, be sure their name and relationship are shared in your fundraiser story. I'm only a family friend and co worker. Walter will be the only person withdrawing any funds that are raised with the firewood event and this go fund me effort.
3. A clear explanation of how the donations will be spent: The Vicente's have had to make extraordinary efforts to get medical treatments while raising three children. The funds raised will go towards medical expenses, travel expenses incurred while getting medical help and daily expenses to keep the family safe and fed. None of these funds are for extra or extravagant purchases.
4. Your plan for delivering the fundraiser's donations to the intended recipient(s): Walter's bank account information will be submitted to the go fund me account so 100% of all funds raised will go directly to the family. The firefighters and volunteers aren't keeping any money back to cover expenses incurred to sell the firewood or for any other type of expenses incurred during fund raising.
