Vic's Recovery from Cardiac Arrest

Donation protected

Hi! You may or may not know that two weeks ago, my former husband and dearest friend, Vic Morris, died and came back to life not once but twice. He has defied statistics (97% in his situation die) and shocked his medical team. Vic’s survival is something that couldn’t have happened—except it did. Here is what occurred:

Around midnight, Vic was out delivering for Papa John’s. A sheriff's deputy saw his car begin to swerve then jump the curb and stop. He found Vic unresponsive and without a pulse. Dead. He used a defibrillator to restore Vic’s pulse, then performed CPR until EMTs arrived. At the hospital, he was put on life support.

For 36 hours, Vic showed no brain activity. We prepared for the worst. When I had a moment alone with him, I said goodbye to the best ex-husband ever, my closest friend of 20 years, said the names of the dogs we had loved and lost together, told him they’d be waiting for him; honestly, I didn’t know what to say. I stopped by his place to pick up his little rescue dog, Dagny, who I figured was now my dog, and drove home, letting it sink in that he was, essentially, gone.

The next morning, the doctor was shaking his head in disbelief. Vic’s eyes were open, and he was responding to questions, squeezing hands, wiggling toes, rolling his eyes when his brother asked him how he was! One day later, they removed the ventilator and he could talk and think normally.

Two days later, Vic had open heart surgery for a triple bypass. When the surgeon made his first cut, no blood came out—the artery was that blocked. During surgery, Vic suffered a second cardiac arrest, but the surgeon revived him with 3 minutes of compressions.

So that’s what happened. And here’s what’s going on now. Vic is home, and his prognosis is good. But he has been out of work for two weeks and will be unable to work for the next four to six weeks. His ongoing medical expenses further add to his financial burden. Without paid time off or short-term disability, he has nothing to cover expenses during this time.

I am hoping you can help. ANY AMOUNT you contribute will mean so much--even just $5, and you can donate anonymously if you prefer. Vic’s the most honorable and deserving person I know, and among the funniest. Let’s give Vic the freedom to recuperate fully without financial stress and the possibility of losing his apartment or getting behind on utilities and other expenses. Thank you for considering my request.
