On June 14th, 2019, after a week of unexplained fatigue on his gigs, the great jazz guitarist VIC JURIS, one of the kindest and most talented musicians in the world, was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer. He is currently at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, receiving treatment.

Due to complications, we don’t yet know when Vic will be able to go home, to continue treatment, and work towards recovery, but we’re praying it will be soon.

Kate Baker, Vic’s wife, has informed us that while Vic does have some medical insurance, it only covers part of his needed treatment. It will be a long recovery before he’ll be able to work again so he needs help with his living expenses.

We are reaching out to our great musical community and friends for donations to help Vic through this terrible ordeal.

Most of all…Vic needs our positive loving thoughts and prayers as he travels the difficult road ahead.

Thank you in advance for any words you want to share with Vic and any financial help you would like to offer. Please spread the word.

Vic really needs us...

Gunnar Mossblad & Dave Stryker

From Vic…
“I want to thank Dave Stryker and Gunnar Mossblad for their years of friendship, and their work in putting all of this together. And to my colleagues, family and friends, in and out of the music community, Kate and I truly appreciate all of your support, love, and good wishes. Seeing these messages from all of you means so much. We are fighting hard to get past this and I look forward to thanking many of you in person and getting back to playing music with all of you. Love, Music, and God we believe is the true healer.  Thank you.”

Caris and I paid a visit to Vic today and got him and myself playing a couple of tunes. If there has ever been someone who could beat the cancer shit, it’s Vic.
Very positive and his usual brilliant mind at work. God bless!!

I spent a lovely afternoon with Vic at his home in West Orange. He has a way to go, but seems stronger and moving toward recovery. Here is a "hello wave" from Vic with his new hat . Thanks too all of you for your support. It has been overwhelming for me to see how much Vic is respected and loved, as a great player, teacher, and of course a caring person.

Warm Greetings from Casa Juris. Once again, a sincere thanks to all who've been contributing to the campaign. I have read each and every comment and am totally blown away by the love and support.

I am currently undergoing treatment and seem to be slowly improving. I am trying to play the guitar a little everyday.

Roger Sadowsky brought over my tele today adjusted with a lighter gage.

I owe some of you returned phone calls. I will respond.

Kate is taking such great care of me and I have an excellent team of doctors!

I miss you all and look forward to good health and performing again.

Warm Greetings from casa Juris and Baker. I am completely blown away by the support on my behalf. Sorry it took me a while to respond. Kate read each and every post to me. I love you all. We have every intention of beating this dragon. Your support and love makes this an easier task.

I would like to thank Dave Stryker, Gunnar Mossblad and Dr. Todd Coolman for organizing the go fund me campaign. I am extremely blessed to have so much love around me. Thank you New School and Rutgers and all my students and former students. I will eventually thank each and everyone of you personally. Also thank you to all my St. Barnabas visitors. Dave Stryker came up everyday. Mindblowing friend and neighbor. A special thanks and love to my beautiful wife Kate who has been my rock and my warrior in this fight.
I will see you all again soon.. A few more obstacles to deal with. I remain positive.

Peace ,

Vic xoxo
