Help Niffer & Paul Recover from Toxic Mold & Lead
Paul and Niffer have had a bad run of luck culminating in Niffer getting extremely ill. In mid January her body just stopped working and after 10 days of illness and no sleep she wound up in the emergency room and has been recovering slowly ever since. She has had off and on chronic illness in the home from lead, mold and toxins and this is the second instance of a winter near death experience in the last 10 years. Paul has also had chronic health issues. This GoFundMe is primarily for helping with costs directly related to Niffer's illness, which are in the several thousands. Anything over the goal will go towards fixing the house issues to make it a safer living space!
Niffer's illness came on so fast and hard she didn't know what was happening. Some of Niffer's symptoms; tachycardia, muscle spasms/loss of motor control, nerve pain, sweating bad smells, brain fog, anxiety, extreme fatigue, insomnia, head pains, light & sound sensitivity, hallucinations, extreme weight loss, muscle weakness, abdominal pain, temporary paralysis, malnutrition etc. etc.
Since the last time Niffer was ill from heavy metals, she gained experience from it and did a lot of research and realized her symptoms were again consistent with poisoning from heavy metals and also mold poisoning. This time she has been going to her doctor and other specialists to get some tests and answers. Lots of tests. Blood tests from the Dr. showed mold/fungus allergies to/ presence of mold in her blood.
She could no longer sleep, breathe or function at home so had to rent an air bnb to recover while the house was cleaned and inspected for mold. She started to sleep after a medication from the Dr. Then it turned out said AirBnb had a bunch of mold in the bathroom and she had to find another one after not being able to bathe and being in danger there. It was a very stressful situation with that bnb host who turned aggressive and kept harassing them for money, falsely accusing her of stealing things and faking illness, causing her a lot of extra distress.
Meanwhile she had to get another airbnb for 2 weeks, at a higher cost. The second airbnb also had problems but at least was quiet. She engaged the services of her naturopath and improved a little, but there were still major issues, so she then started working with a holistic mold and toxin specialist. The specialist prescribed many supplements to help support and detox the body, and also a special elimination diet that requires only high quality pesticide free, sugar free, gluten free etc., plus weekly consultation fees, and she has been improving everyday!
Meanwhile the house was professionally (partially) cleaned, and inspected and tested for mold. Several kinds were found, fortunately not the most deadly kind, and they were in certain areas, however the cost of testing everywhere is prohibitive. For tests so far were $500 the remediation estimate alone for these areas was given at $1500, not including contract work needed to repair ceiling and sink cabinets in question.
After Niffer got home she realized the paint was chipping in many places and they should test for lead. Her intuition was correct- all the tests they did from the 3M kits appeared positive. So now a whole new round of blood tests need done, plus there will need to be lead inspection, contracting, remediation etc.
There are also issues with the roof, basement and plumbing leaking that allow water to come in and therefore moisture for mold.
These are all hopefully fixable problems, it's just too much at once. The upshot of all this is quite a large and sudden financial blow. Niffer was not able to run her art biz or earn income for 2 months, while necessarily spending like crazy. Paul has been also exhausted and sick, as he suffers from chronic headaches, sinusitis and other issues. The costs so far have added up to over 6 thousand, mostly for directly health related things. Home remediation and repair will be much more than that.
This has been a scary, frustrating, seemingly mysterious illness but they are finally getting to a place of understanding and healing and Niffer is getting better every day. They both really appreciate all the support and love that has been coming in so far and forward to more health and safety!
