On Friday, July 31, my husband (Rob) and I (Marsha), along with our youngest daughter (Rebekah), set out chasing a dream of taking Rob across country by RV; it's a dream we have had for decades. But upon arriving to our first stop in Las Vegas, Rob suffered a massive heart attack. He has been intubated for a week now and we do not have a handle on the outcome yet. We know we may be here for weeks and possibly longer; most of our belongings have already been shipped to West Virginia, as part of the move.
Rob served 22 years in the USCG. Not only did he give up the best years of his life to serve our country, he gave up his quality of life, for he has a service connected disability with the military due to his exposure to hazardous chemicals as a Marine Safety Officer. In 2005, he was told he might live another 2 years, but we proved to be stronger than science, and God has blessed us with an additional 8 years.
Anyone who knows Rob can tell you what a great man he is. He's a wonderful husband and friend. He has been a caring, loving father to not just his own children, but to many others over his lifespan. There are dozens of people who now refer to him as "Dad."
Financially, we were in okay shape to move, but we did not have any spare for a crisis of this magnitude. We are far from our destination, West Virgina; bills and expenses are spiraling beyond our control and we are no longer in the position to handle this alone. I'm coming to all of you, hoping you can help. I'm only guessing at what we may need, but any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
