Jessica's Japanese Apartment Fund

Hello, my name is Jessica.

I am currently living and working in Japan as an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher). The pay is good, but my student loan debt takes a sizeable chunk out of my monthly paycheck and it makes it next to impossible to save money.  I am currently in the process of transferring locations in my company (from a branch in Toyama City in Toyama Prefecture to the Yokohama Branch in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture). This move will come not only with a pay raise, but with far more opportunity for me to partake in side jobs (such as private English Conversation Lessons, translating, or voice recording jobs), which will help me bring in extra money and finally be able to start saving something.

In Japan, moving is an extremely expensive process and while the rent of the apartment that I have found is lower than my current rent, the initial cost that I will have to pay on March 26th is nearly my whole monthly paycheck. The initial cost cannot be paid by credit card, and though there is an option of getting a loan, this will be harder to obtain as a foreigner and I would like to avoid going into any further debt.

The initial cost in Japanese is 168,404 yen, which is roughly the equivalent of 1,473 dollars.  I have the money value on this campaign at 1,600 dollars. The extra money is to cover any possible fluctuations in currency exchange and any possible fees that may arise from taking money out of my US bank account while I am in Japan. Any remaining/extra money, however, will be used to pay for the items I will be shipping from my current apartment to my new apartment, or to pay towards the cleaning and damages fees that accompany moving out of an apartment.

I know, and am very much so aware, of the fact that there are likely many other campaigns on this site for individuals in far more dire straits than I am, and for causes far more selfless than my own. But I am currently in a bit of a bind and any and all help that I can recieve will be so greatly appreciated, even if it just consists of spreading the word and getting this out to other people. Thank you.
