I am trying to raise $21,000 to help my mom get some help caring for my step-dad at night. My mom had multiple strokes 10yrs ago so she is physically limited and tires very easy. She also takes care of my mentally disabled sister. Life has been very rough on her the past 2yrs when we found out Dave had a brain tumor that was cancerous in December 2018. It’s official name is Glioblastoma, the most aggressive cancer within the brain. The old Dave is gone and he is changing, becoming more than what my mom can handle. He can barely walk with his walker anymore and will soon be bedridden. He can be very argumentative and insists on doing things that may not be safe for him anymore. Dave is confused about 90% of the time these days which makes it hard for us to communicate with him. My mom is a strong, caring person and I just want to help give her some peace of mind that she isn’t alone in all this. I want to be able to pay someone for their time to help during the night so my mom can get some sleep. Right now Dave wakes her up almost every hour whether it is for help to get up and use the bathroom or because he is agitated and confused (that normally means he isn’t being very nice). It all wares on her and then she is exhausted during the day where he is constantly calling for her from his bed. Dave’s insurance does not cover nightly care givers and we can’t afford to pay out of pocket. I have calculated the cost of having someone come in 7 nights a week for approximately 3 months.
