Austin's Journey
The Theis family has received life changing news in the last few weeks regarding their son Austin, who is four years old.
Mike and Amy have three boys, Conor, 12, Nolan, 8 and Austin, 4.
Austin has been diagnosed Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. LCH is a rare condition found in 1 out of 200,000 children each year.
LCH is a condition in which your body makes too many white blood cells ( hystiocite cells) and can build up in certain tissues or organs forming lesions or tumors. Austin's LCH is located in his left ear and jaw. Although most doctors classify LCH as cancer, unlike cancer, this will not spread to other areas with treatment. Austin's prognosis is really good!!!
Austin has been put through more tests than any little four year old should ever have to endure. (Biopsy and removal of several teeth, MRI's, brain scans, PET scans, EKG's and being stuck too many times to count, with many more tests to come)
SO FAR, HE HAS HANDELED ALL OF THIS LIKE A CHAMP!! A true SUPERHERO.
Austin will begin an oral chemotherapy treatment that he will take every day for at least one year.
Mike and Amy are lifelong residents of Reading and are very active in the community and in the boys' school. Amy and Mike volunteer at school and Mike is an amazing coach. They are having a hard time accepting that they NEED to accept help! They do so much for others and I am hoping we can rally around them and show them how much we love them all.
Here is where YOU come in!!! Right now, there is a battle happening to get coverage from insurance; even if coverage is eventually approved, this medicine, and the ongoing scans, will definitely take a financial toll. The chemotherapy medicine alone is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE.
There are a few ways you can help the Theis family:
PRAY- Pray for Austin. Pray for him to tolerate the medicine and continued tests. Pray for Mike and Amy and Nolan and Conor. They need strength, hope and encouragement to carry them through this journey.
We have created this go fund me to help alleviate some of the financial burden they are facing. ANYTHING , any amount at all can be helpful. They are so appreciative.
