June 13th update. Happy birthday Joe! Kathryn was accepted to Masonic Children’s at the University of Minnesota in the cities. She should be flying down there this afternoon sometime. Still a long road but likely another surgery to find the leak and fix it. Thank you all for everything!!!!
June 10th Update:
Kathryn was discharged from Phoenix on June 6th and flew to Auntie Aprils Saturday June 7th as this was a non stop flight and to the Midwest. We had a good couple of days together until this morning when dad woke me up at 5am that Kathryn had a fever. To Essentia we went because Auntie lives eats and breathes Essentia and her coworkers and have the trust of the world in them to get some answers.
With that being said, the bills are continuing to come and the funds are very low. What was supposed to be 2-3 weeks and home has turned into 6 weeks and now likely another couple away from home. Joe and Amber haven’t left her side and have been unable to work. I am reopening the GoFundMe. If you are able to help it would be very appreciated. No worries if not. Everyone has does so much. Prayers always welcomed as well. Keep an eye on caringbridge for updates. Joes Venmo is also below.

April Update-we are blown away by your generosity in less than 24 hours! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!
My name is April Rohrer and I’m writing on behalf of my niece Kathryn and her family. My brother Joe and his wife Amber have 4 beautiful girls Olivia, Kathryn, Adeline and Emery.
On Monday Kathryn was having stroke like symptoms and was brought to the emergency room where they found a large entanglement of blood vessels that had started to leak in the bottom portion of her brain called the Pons. This is called a cavernous angioma and she was sent to the children’s hospital in Madison, Wisconsin at the University. She is currently scheduled for surgery next Tuesday to remove this. I’ll attach the caringbridge below.
Joe and Amber are with Kathryn at the hospital which is about 3 hours away from their other girls. We are not concerned about medical bills as Joe is still in the national guard and has great insurance with tricare. They will be there at least 4-6 weeks as rehab after surgery will take some time. Kathryn struggles with walking and using the right side of her body and if anyone knows Kathryn, at 7 years old, that has been the hardest part for her to comprehend why her brain is fighting with her arm and leg.
I am asking for help on their behalf for assistance with all the other “things”. Food everyday, lodging and gas for family driving the sisters back and forth for visits, clothing as she has to change daily due to finding out she has mrsa colonized in her nose, food for the family and incidentals for them all. The grandparents, friends, aunts and uncles are all taking turns being home with the other girls, but as you can imagine feeding 3 other kids and driving them around etc, the cost adds up. Joe and Amber will also be off work during this time and neither have fmla or short term disability etc as they are both mostly self employed. I’d also like to get enough to keep the Lego set supply going. Kathryn LOVES legos and it’s been really good for her brain to read the instructions and use both her hands putting them together and even just sitting up during this time working on that core strength. Also due to the mrsa and being in such a sensitive area of the children’s hospital she’s been unable to go to the playroom anymore so I’ve been working on getting her stocked full of toys and games and snacks.
Anything helps and SO very much appreciated! From the bottom of all of our hearts thank you not only for monetary donations but also for the prayers, the calls and texts, the love and the offerings of help.
Lastly we are looking at second opinions as well for different approaches to surgery in such a sensitive area of the brain. Additional funds will help this journey as well.
April Rohrer on behalf of the Von Hadens :)
