Malia’s Memorial-Funeral Fund

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

This is Malia she was born April 22, 2022, at LPCH. Malia had an amazing journey and she has Trisomy 18. If you read about Trisomy 18 on Google you’ll see it says it’s a fatal condition that causes multiple birth defects. Most babies with T18 don't make it to birth, and of those that do, most don't make it more than a few hours or days. This is not true. They are compatible with life and can live a very meaningful life if advocated for.

I knew for months that the outcome could be bad or joyful, but I decided as long as she kept fighting, so would I. I took it day by day and hoped for the best and prepared for the worst. But you are never really ready for the worst.

I went through the whole pregnancy knowing she had some issues but wanted to give her the chance. She fought a hard fight. The amazing doctors at Stanford LPCH and I worked together to give her the best care. On July 6 she had open heart surgery. Were it not for the amazing surgeons, Malia would have never had a true fighting chance.

On August 5 I received a few calls that every Trisomy and NICU parent doesn’t want to hear. The facts are tough to swallow, Malia had gone into cardiac arrest and she would not be with us much longer. After the worst drive of my life calling anyone I could to pray with me, I drove my last time to her at Stanford. Despite the surgery to repair her heart her lungs were not able to do as well as we had hoped. Her heart could no longer handle it, and she passed at 4:06 AM on 8/5.

I advocated for her she fought a hard fight for me. But god had bigger plans for her. This week was a hard week. I got laid off from my job as well as her father. It isn’t the prettiest picture. But I am strong and know god has me and has plans for me too. Malia changed my life in more ways than I even know. She also changed many others.

Now, for the reason, I have created this gofundme - something I never imagined I would do for myself:

I will never look a life insurance salesman in the face and laugh as it is no joke. Losing someone is expensive. With my job situation, I am behind on many things. I now need to take a break from looking for a job for my mental health and grieve.

I would be extremely grateful if you could contribute to her memorial fund, for her final expenses and memorial. I cannot express my gratitude adequately.

If you can contribute, I thank you eternally. If you are not able to financially help, I would appreciate you sharing this so that more people may be aware and able to contribute. Since she was born on Earth Day I also have a memorial grove set up. You'll find her name in the drop-down menu on the right side       if you don’t want to make a monetary donation this would be amazing too. A tree is only $10.

All extra funds will be donated in Malia's honor to the organizations that helped her the most.
