VFL Billy Ratliff Cochlear Implants

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Donna Dillon and I am raising funds for my friend Billy to obtain cochlear implants to restore his hearing, ability to work, and quality of life.

Who is Billy Ratliff?
In 1998, DE Billy Ratliff made what was arguably the best play in Tennessee football history. He will always be remembered for the “stumble and fumble” that gave the Volunteers a late offensive possession which led to a 28-24 win over the Arkansas.
Please consider financially supporting
Billy and his family with his upcoming journey to receive Cochlear implants. The procedure is not cheap, and he will not be able to return to work until he reaches the level of hearing to support his customers. This could be several months. Insurance does assist with this procedure. His upfront cost is approximately $6,000 plus the additional equipment he will need to have the implants function in his day-to-day life. They are looking at close to $10,000 when everything is said and done.
Prayers and any support you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Billy’s Story
Billly began losing his hearing about 12 years ago. The Dr. told him and his wife to begin learning sign language as there may be a day he will lose hearing altogether. Insurance didn’t pay anything for hearing aids. They had to pay out of pocket $10,000 just to give him a chance of a normal life and to continue working. About 3 weeks ago, it was identified he had 100% hearing loss in one ear and only 56% hearing in the other ear (with hearing aids). After having a consultation with the Cochlear specialist, he is a candidate!

What are Cochlear Implants
1. What Are Cochlear Implants?
o A cochlear implant is an electronic device designed to improve hearing. It serves as an option for individuals who experience severe hearing loss due to inner-ear damage and are not able to hear effectively with traditional hearing aids.
o Unlike hearing aids, which simply amplify sound, a cochlear implant bypasses damaged portions of the ear. It directly delivers sound signals to the auditory nerve, allowing recipients to perceive sound even when their natural hearing pathways are compromised.
