Help my brother get the recovery medical care he needs because we want him around for a long time!
When I close my eyes and think about my brother, it's hard not to picture us as kids. In fact, it doesn't even seem that long ago that we were growing up together in Sammamish, Washington. While we had the typical sibling rivalry most brothers and sisters and shared, we loved each other all the same. He was my side-kick and together, we were a team.
When we weren’t tromping around the neighborhood on roller blades, riding bikes, or searching for frogs, you could find us playing hide and seek and make believe, and definitely enjoying our fix of Saturday morning cartoons. (Tom and Jerry was our favorite!) I fondly remember his gentle soul coupled with a very deep and compassionate spirit. At the drop of a hat, he always willing to help everyone around him. Growing up, Kris was a great student. He loved math and computers and was an amazing soccer athlete. Even though he had a very full plate, he still managed his time wisely and even earned a job at the age of sixteen. To this day, his strong work ethic, one of the things I admire most about him, still sticks with me and has been a personal catalyst toward achieving my own dreams.
Kris's battle with addiction began in his late teens. While it started small, it got out of hand quickly, and over the years grew to serious drug use. At the height of his struggle, he was very sick and it took a major toll on his health as well as our family. We were torn apart with grief, fear, and confusion. Currently, my brother is being treated with medical methadone, a drug used to help ween addicts off heavy narcotics, in order to keep him "sober" so he doesn’t relapse or overdose. His past drug use and current medical detox are taking a major toll on his health and robbing him of the life he dreams of and deserves.
While I'm so grateful and proud that he is taking these crucial steps towards being sober, this is just the beginning of a long and difficult road towards recovery. I’ve had a dream of sending my brother to a rehabilitation program for a very long time and simply have not had the funds to do so. I'm writing this with the hope that together, we can achieve this goal and get Kris the help he needs. After much thought and consideration, I've decided to use GoFundMe.com, a website dedicated to organizing fundraisers, in hopes of making monatary contributions and ways to help as clearly and easily as possible. It is my dream that my brother, Kris goes on to maintain a healthy lifestyle with the proper support he needs to thrive.
Love takes many forms, and with it's strength and guidance, I want to do everything I can to get my big brother the care he needs. He has always had my back growing up and now, I have his. Thank you for your support and prayers. I’m eternally grateful for your time and donations.
