In this challenging COVID-19 time, let’s help protect our trauma and orthopedic health care workers, and support local employment at the same time.
WHY?
Availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) in Malawi is challenging at the best of times. To continue to safely provide care for the injured during this crisis, AO Alliance Managing Director, Dr Claude Martin jr. and the AO Alliance team have initiated a campaign to #ProtectHealthcareHeroes.
The AO Alliance is partnering to care for the injured in more than 30 low- and middle-income countries and has been active in Malawi since 2015.
HOW?
The AO Alliance is contracting with a local PPE maker in Blantyre, Malawi – Kids' World Tailoring, run by Mr. Jordan Dowbush – to make PPE kits (cap, mask, gown, apron) that are washable and reusable for surgeons and nurses working in operating theatres. One PPE kit costs $ 20.
One US Dollar = One Swiss Franc.
With your help, we aim to supply three major trauma centres in Malawi (Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Kamuzu Central Hospital and Mzuzu Central Hospital) with a total of 250 sets of reusable PPEs for use in operating theatres by the end of May 2020.
We know this is a very difficult time for everyone, so even the smallest donation is greatly appreciated.

GOVERNANCE
The AO Alliance is audited by BDO Ltd, Chur, Switzerland, so you can be assured your donation will be applied to this campaign. The AO Alliance’s project officer in Malawi, Mr. Precious Kamange, will be administering this project personally.
What does my donation achieve?
$20 provides a full PPE kit for one healthcare worker working in the operating theatres.
$5,000 will seed fund this initiative in any one of the other countries in which we are active below. Please contact Dr Claude Martin jr. (info@ao-alliance.org) if you want to seed fund this initiative in a country listed below:

Students from Kids’ World Tailoring work hard to become tailors in Malawi. Proceeds go to put more than 300 children and adults through school, from nursery school right through to University or vocational training.
