Volunteering Expedition to Kenya

My name is Deryn and in summer 2026 I will be participating in a 4-week expedition to Kenya with Camps International where I will be volunteering on: community development projects to help change the lives of locals and environmental conservation initiatives to help protect Kenya’s natural habitats and safeguard their future. ​

The expedition will be the biggest challenge I have faced so far in my 15 years of living on this planet!! I will be away from home for a month, staying in an unfamiliar environment, experiencing different foods, different cultures, different climates as well as undertaking activities that I have never done before which will be both physically and emotionally demanding!

However, by participating in the expedition, I believe it will develop many of my life skills - independence, communication, leadership, team-building and problem solving being just some.

The first part of my journey is to fundraise, so I have decided to cycle the distance of the Kenyan coastline in 2 months - 600km (372 miles).

My cycle challenge will begin on Wednesday 1st January 2025 as New Year's Day seems like a good day to start it. I will aim to complete it by March 1st (St. David’s Day if you have any Welsh heritage like me).
