Tuesday morning our family had a life changing event, that we could never have planned for .
George had a stroke.
This is a life-changing event, and even though it is not the worst-case scenario, this is going to change our lives quite a bit. This was no doubt one of the scariest things we have ever encountered and will have to battle through together as a family right now.
He has suffered significant loss of muscle control on his right side, impacting his speech, fine motor control, and ability to walk.
Due to his current job, he will not be able to go back to work indefinitely until he can regain the mobility he needs. His current job is driving a wheelchair van, and it's going to take a lot of rehab to get him back to being able to do that.
We were just in the process of signing up for health insurance, and that has not been processed. There’s going to be a lot of missed work and rehab costs coming up that we are going to need some help to cover.
If you know George, you know that this is his absolute ground zero, and not being able (at the holidays no less) to provide is his worst nightmare.
Anything will help! We will be finding out how much therapy he needs soon, but it’s going to be a major thing. The important thing is he’s still himself; we just need to help him get back to 100%.
UPDATE: George is still in the hospital , and we are waiting to get him moved to a rehab facility where he will have to gain the strength to be able to come home . He is already trying his best to walk as much as he can with his walker ( and dreams of walking with a really cool cane) and has been given lots of papers on words to practice for speech therapy and will need to get his right hand to be able to hold things and gain his motor skills with it again. He’s already putting in the work and we are proud of him for laughing at himself and keeping his spirits up as much as possible .
Every donation you guys are making is going to make it possible for us to get through this time without George at home , get him the care and rehab he needs , equipment and installation of devices to allow him to eventually come home — and maybe help keep the electricity and heat on at the house for his family. For every single one of you donating we are all so grateful . Every dollar is so deeply appreciated and will help us get us through this time. The doctors do not want to see his blood pressure high right now . With every gift, it’s helping him . Thank you all so so much.
I doubt our family will ever feel as loved or as humbled as we do right now by your generosity and love . To all of you, thank you .
