Ok- here we go!
My name is Mark "Wally Sound" McClellan- I have been running a recording studio in my home for going on 23 years, first in SF and then, after our eviction in '97 in Oakland Ca.
I run this place by myself, I have no managers, second engineers or anyone else helping me, its a very nice sized, homey intimate place that is very conducive to creativity. I do quality work and I get no complaints. Now comes the important stuff-
In my analog/digital studio I have been holding off on upgrading to a faster, better digital recording platform, as my system has been treating me well for the last couple of years and my analog equipment is all fine. I have amassed a lot of digital audio tools (plugins, interfaces etc) in my digital recording setup, but slowly my computer is falling apart and my tools are becoming obsolete. If I upgrade my computer now to a new operating system half my tools will be lost and I will still have a slow computer that is not compatible with new software, sessions from elsewhere and everything else that comes from waiting in the back of the line in the tech world. So basically I need a completely new digital recording system. I am also raising money to do some acoustic treatments in my studio which were never properly done because of a shortage of funds when I started my new Oakland studio. These include taming low frequencies and standing waves in the tracking room and control room, and making diffusors for the control room and tracking room (Polys).
I wish I could say that the studio is successful enough to raise the $25,000 I am shooting for here, but times (read funds) in the studio world are tenuous at best right about now as the music industry has changed in so many ways. The other part of the monetary equation is just living in the Bay Area- my home of over 33 years. I have a house/mortgage, 2 kids in college and all the other money consuming factors that are so hard to keep up with here- GAK- -BUT if this campaign comes through I intend to keep my rates reasonable to accommodate the artists that NEED a studio and an experienced engineer to bring their vision to fruition.
I want to thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully you listened to the music clips at the end of the video presentation- I apologize for leaving tons of musicians out of the presentation, but want to thank each and every one of you that has graced this studio at one time or another.
Here's a link to my flash website-sorry doesnt work on mobile devices (soon to be changed)
