Our friend Tumi and his family need some help to get through a rough spot brought on by COVID-19. The good news is that he has been careful since arriving in the US last year, and he’s not suffocating under a mountain of debt. But, his wife and son have both lost their jobs. Tumi is still driving for Lyft, but the number of customers has dropped dramatically over the past couple of weeks. They are going to need some cash very soon to meet rent and other bills and some longer term help finding work and gaining access to any community resources that might help.
We are asking each of you to do two things:
1) Contribute to this GoFundMe campaign to raise the cash. Our goal is to raise $6,000 by April 1. If we each chip in $300 we’ll meet the goal easily.
2) Please give some thought to how you can help in the longer term. Maybe you know someone who is hiring in the Arlington area (Tumi’s resume is attached). Or maybe you’re familiar with a great organization that provides assistance to recent immigrants. Or maybe you could help Tumi and his family navigate the bureaucracy to figure out what kinds of assistance they might qualify for, if needed. Anything you can think of that will help them address their longer-term desire to return to self-sufficiency as soon as possible would be great!
A message from Tumi:
First of all thank you a very much! I'm left speechless! it is deeply touched my heart. I was not expecting this much a generous donation from all of you. Don't know how to fully express my gratitude to all of you. It is not easy time not only for me also pretty much everyone in this world. I'm thinking hard how survive this period of time seems many difficult months ahead of us.
You really made me feel so honored. My deepest gratitude to all of you. You gave me new hope and strength. America is great country. there are a much to see and learn. I do remember every single moment spent with you guys and feeling such a nostalgic.
With best regards,
Tumi's family
