4th and 5th Grade Robotics Team from Mt Stuart Elementary school in Ellensburg, Washington!
These 1st year robotics students have shown outstanding team work since day one. They practiced once a week after school from September to December. The students then competed in several robotics events against teams from Seattle area, middle school/junior high teams and teams who come from a district with established robotics programs.
On December 10, 2016 Mt. Stuart Elementary sent seven robotics teams to the GearUp Vex IQ Tournament at Central Washington University. Six of the seven teams qualified for the final tournament. One of the 5th Grade and 4th Grade teams ended up finishing first and became Tournament Teamwork Champions. This win qualified them for the state championship in March.
The two teams went back to CWU on January 13th for the VEX IQ Ellensburg League Finals. The 5th grade team finished 1st and became League Teamwork Champions. The 4th Grade team finished 2nd.
Two of the nineteen elementary teams that qualified for the state tournament came from Mt. Stuart Elementary. In fact, Mt. Stuart Elementary had the only two teams from the Ellensburg to qualify for the state tournament. After making it into the Top 12 final tournament with a seeding of #3 & #4, both teams were paired together for one final match. In order to prepare for the state championship, the boys practiced once a week after school and two times a week during their lunch break alongside their coaches Mr. Eng and Miss Noble. Additionally, they competed in a few more tournaments this winter.
The 1st Place Finish and State Championship at CWU qualified the teams for the VEX World Robotics Championship in Louisville, Kentucky on April 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2017.
We are asking you to help send these amazing and talented students to compete in the World Robotics Competition who will also be representing our Ellensburg Community, our Ellensburg School District and most importantly our very own Mt. Stuart Elementary.
Breakdown of funds:
Entrance fee for competition=$ 850.00 per team. (2 teams =$1700.00) DUE MARCH 19, 2017
Each air plane ticket is $ 500
5 boys + 5 Parents + 1 Coach (Mr. Eng) = 11 people (5,500.00)
Hotel rooms $200 per night
We will be sharing rooms so we will only need 4 rooms for both teams. Updated amount: 4 rooms for 4 nights=$3,200
6 rooms for 4 night= $4,800 Total $12, 000 (not including transportation or food)
PLEASE HELP US REACH OUR GOAL OF $ 12,000 TO SEND THESE KIDS TO COMPETE IN THE VEX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.
Any additional funds we raise for this competition or if we don’t reach our goal, ALL Money will be donated to MT. Stuart Robotics program.
