TEAKY UPDATE AS OF 01/03/25 -
‼️PHOTO UPDATES, WARNING GRAPHIC WOUND PICTURE WHEN IT WAS AT ITS WORSE‼️
Teaky has now been in the hospital for 7 days. We have visited her daily, and although it breaks our hearts seeing her so vulnerable and confused, we know it’s good for her to see us and to remind her we’re still here. The VAC system was successfully put onto Teakys wound on Wednesday night, and late last night, we got the good news (along with pictures), that it has worked absolute miracles!

Her skin and muscle is no longer turning necrotic, her wound has began to produce fresh skin cells, and there is now fresh blood on the surface of the wound- all positive signs! For the past 6 days, she has been completely unable to move, leaving her to lay in one position only. She was started on Fentynal on Thursday which has enabled her to start moving around. Thankfully, we got a video yesterday which showed her walking on all 4 paws!

Her wound is still infected and she was put on Sepsis watch on Thursday due to having signs of becoming septic, however due to being placed on 3 different antibiotics, she is no longer on sepsis watch.

The plan over the weekend is to replace the VAC until Sunday or Monday to try and get the skin even healthier, and the surgeon is going to review her wound again to see if it’s in a state to be operated on.

We are so grateful for all the support, wishes and messages we have had about Teaky- after receiving the good news last night, we are both remaining positive that she can return home with all 4 paws intact! Vets bills now estimated at £7,000

Hello, thank you for reading, I am trying to raise funds for vet bills for lovely Doggy Teaky. Teaky is my Niece and her partners four year old English Springer Spaniel, here is Teaky’s story so far and any donations would be so greatly appreciated and it would massively help them, they are already kicking themselves about this horrible situation so I am just trying to help relieve some of this worry and stress………..WARNING one of the pictures in the gallery is of the wound and is graphic. Whatever sliced her leg so horrifically should not have been in a place where dogs, children & people roam, please be careful if you walk in this common…….the poor darling…………..

Teaky is our 4 year old English Springer Spaniel who has been the biggest part of our lives since she joined us as an 8 week old, blue eyed puppy.

Anyone who has met Teaky will understand just how much she loves being outdoors, whether it's the forest, beach, park, or even being driven around in the car, it's what she lives for.
On Sunday 23rd February, we took Teaky to one of her favourite forests, Esher Common for a long family walk. In typical Teaky style, she was enjoying rummaging around the forestry, looking for squirrels and new smells. Around 3pm, we heard the most awful sound coming from Teaky's direction, screams and cries which continued far too long to be anything minor. On running over to her, she was unable to walk, and her back leg covered in blood. She had suffered a huge laceration to her leg/groin, it was sliced open extensively. Conor carried her back to the car and she was in the vets hospital within 20 minutes of the accident occurring.

The vets have had her for over 2 days now, and while we thought the skin was only minimally damaged, upon clearing her up and disinfecting the wound, the true size or the laceration is the full width of her inner thigh. She has been lucky to walk away with no broken bones, and we believe no muscle or nerve damage, however due to the positing of her wound, a specialist surgeon visited her today (25th Feb) to assess what can be done to restore her leg.

Unfortunately, the skin has regressed down her leg, and is showing signs that it could be dying. The treatment plan for this could go two ways. Firstly, and the most ideal, would be to use a Vacuum-Assisted Closure technique to remove excess fluid and bacteria, reduce the wound size and promote granulation tissue formation. The VAC could be placed on for 2 days and could dramatically increase her chances of a successful reconstruction. Due to the extent and location of her injury, this may not be possible. Our second option will be to continue with the wet-dry bandages for 7-10 days in the hope the inflammation and infection is reduced enough so reconstruction can take place. Following either of these treatments, it has been suggested that she will need skin flap surgery to cover the extent of the damage.

Myself and Conor have only recently returned to the UK following a few years of living in Ireland. As Teaky is an adventurous dog, we knew how important insurance was to get for her, especially for accidental injuries. Unfortunately, since moving back to the UK, life took its usual chaotic path, and we did not get Teaky insured in time to cover her for this incident.

The vets last estimate for this treatment was around £4000, however if the VAC does not work, and due to overnight hospitalisation costs, this estimate would be closer to £6000.
