Hi, my name is Carolynne and I am raising funds to help pay for my beautiful baby Splodge’s medical bills.
Splodge is an ex feral cat who we have had for over a decade. He has become one of the sweetest, soppiest cats you’d ever meet!
A few months ago, we noticed that Splodge was losing weight and his left eye seem to be bothering him. We took him to the vet who did some blood tests, which came back pretty inconclusive. They did some more thorough tests and they came back showing that he had some heart problems, so the vet sent him away with some beta blockers.
Over the next couple of days his eye seem to get a lot worse so we took him back to the vets and saw a different vet. She was wonderful and did a thorough examination and then said we needed to be referred to a specialist, which she organised immediately. Two days later we were at the specialist Vets and they said that he was probably going to lose his eye. They did some more blood tests which came back positive for toxoplasmosis but this didn’t explain all his other symptoms, so they did an ultrasound which came back showing he had a mass on his adrenal gland. The biopsy they did showed that this was cancerous.
The next step was to be an operation to try to remove this mass and his eye together in the same operation. This was organised and then Splodge took a turn for the worse. He was admitted to the hospital for eight days because his electrolytes were bottoming out and they didn’t know if you would make it through the first night. Thankfully he did and slowly his numbers increased and we were able to take him home.
This form of cancer is very rare and the operation is very tricky so after discussing it with the Vets, they recommended that we try to manage the mass with medication.
So this is what we have been doing. His numbers have been holding steady in the normal range but in the last couple of weeks Splodge has lost his appetite and has been feeling nauseous so he’s had to have an anti-sickness shot and appetite stimulants. These have worked only a little and Splodge lost even more weight.
We are seeing the vet again tomorrow (28th August) to discuss further options
As I’m sure you’re aware all this costs a lot of money. He is insured but due to his age we still have to pay 20%. So far we have paid over £1500 and there is still a lot more to come. I am off work long term due to an aggressive form of rheumatoid arthritis, so funds are very tight right now.
Any help that anyone could give us, we would be eternally grateful. Splodge is my baby and I adore him. I don’t know if we are going to be able to save him but he is a fighter and so am I and if I can save him I will.
Thank you so much for your help, any amount is amazing.
Much love, Carolynnne.
