What are we raising money for?
To build a family friendly pavilion in the heart of the park.
Why do we want to make these changes?
The park has two sections; the Westside of the park has the Veterans Memorial and picnic area which is separated from the Eastside by at least a hundred yards of land and trees. The Eastside has all the activities; basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer field, children's playground, football field, daycare, bathrooms, etc. however it does not have a single convening area. On the Eastside there is no place for families to picnic, no shaded area, no seating, etc. If we can get just get one pavilion here, it will dramatically change the dynamic of the park which will result in more families coming (and more often).
The park helped shape our lives and we want it to continue to shape the lives of the next generation and generations to come. Growing up…it kept us off the streets and out of trouble. It was a place where we could use our energy in a positive manner while building life long friendships. This pavilion is for the families and members of this community who were and are still committed to building and molding a better future for Sandalfoot.
What does this park mean to the community?
It is a major part of the Sandalfoot community, it’s the centralized hub of our community. Most of us were born if not raised in Sandalfoot, we spent most of our free time at this park and we are thankful for this park because without it…we are not sure we would be the positive male figures and role models we are today. The community of Sandalfoot is diminishing, crime is rising, new people are moving in and we feel the community is slipping away. The answer for this problem is in one word…”families". If we can get more parents together, more kids together, more families together then we can build a stronger community. This pavilion, a centralized hub for families inside the heart of the community (Veterans Park), will play a vital role in this. It’s not the cure all but it is definitely a huge step in the right direction. This park used to bind Sandalfoot together in a major way, we feel this will help bring it back. We owe everything to this park and we want to see it thrive again as it once did.
