Veterinary Expenses for Sunny

Tax deductible

Sunny “Kaias Sunkissed” is a beautiful, black retired racing greyhound, who recently came into our adoption group. She turned 3 just this month.  Yesterday, she went off her food and could not keep water down.  Her foster mom called to get her a vet appointment, but Sunny then began panting heavily and was rushed to Solomons Veterinary Center, where she was diagnosed with sepsis and an infection in her abdomen. Her condition was critical, but they were able to stabilize her enough to transport her to a specialty 24 hour vet in Annapolis.  We were on a roller coaster for the rest of the day. We were told she would need surgery to drain the infection and look for the underlying cause.  Just before surgery, Sunny began to rapidly deteriorate, and we thought we were going to lose her, but again they were able to stabilize her. They said she was lifting her head and responding, so they weren’t ready to give up.  They gave us a 50/50 chance on her surviving the surgery; we weren’t ready to give up either and gave them the go ahead.  Sunny survived the surgery; the cause of the infection was a perforated intestine, which was leaking its contents into her abdomen. She has multiple drains in her abdomen, is on oxygen and is getting plasma, antibiotics and fluids.  We got an encouraging update this morning, and the plan today is to place a nasogastric tube to start giving GI protectants and nutrition.  Her condition remains guarded. She has a long course ahead of her and no guarantees, but she is spunky and a fighter, and we have great hope that she will be our Christmas miracle.  The estimate for the total cost of her care is between $10,000 - $16,000.

We understand that this year has been challenging and that it is holiday season, but if you are able to donate toward her medical expenses, we would be so appreciative.  We are a 501c3 charity and will send all donors a receipt for tax purposes.

We will post updates on Sunny as we get them.

Thank you,
