Donation protected
This April, I will be leaving California to help improve animal welfare in the Philippines. After a lovely vacation there with my family just this February, I fell in love with the country and it's people, but of course my heart also went out to all the stray cats and dogs roaming the streets. I have been waiting for this opportunity to serve using my advanced training as a veteranarian and my passion as an animal lover.
With my veterinary degree, I will be able to make an impact not only as a volunteer veterinarian at different animal shelters, but also through lobbying efforts toward the Filipino government to help raise awareness and improve laws pertaining to animal welfare. Additionally, I will be involved in spay and neuter programs that are up and coming, and I will work closely with the Aklan Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Kalibo on the Panay Island, as well as the CARE organization, located in Dumaguete City on the Negros Island.
As a volunteer, I will not be receving any income, however I do have to pay for room and board, other living expenses and travel costs. The ultimate goal is to to stay in the Philippines long enough to make a real impact on this worthy cause. For now, I will be dependent on my own savings, as well as the donations of fellow animal lovers, to "make it or break it" there. Donations will also go to buying the equipment necessary to perform procedures as a veterinarian and to the care of homeless cats and dogs. And it doesn't take much - here is a brief idea of what your donations will cover:
$5 will pay for my room for one night
$4 gets me fed for a day
$5-10 feeds a dog or cat for a month
$60 buys the visa I need to stay for two months at a time
$70 will ship all the veterinary books and equipment I have to the Philippines.
If you value the welfare of helpless animals, your contribution will make a huge impact. Any donations will be received with the deepest gratitude and used in a way that will change the lives of many unfortuante cats and dogs!
