Help American Military Spouses save these dogs!
TL;DR: A small dog shelter in South Korea needs your help to get much-needed veterinary care. Donating (any amount!) and sharing this fundraiser helps a TON!
Asan Cheonsawon Shelter ("ACS") is a sanctuary for dogs sentenced to death in South Korea. Since 2000, ACS founder Soon Ok Choi (fondly known as "Granny") has facilitated care for hundreds of dogs destined for kill shelters, dog meat farms, or backyard "disposal". The shelter is located in Asan, South Korea--close to US Army Garrison Humphreys. A few years ago, the shelter was forcibly taken over and donations funneled away from the established accounts, leaving ACS in financial ruin.
In February 2020, a small group of American volunteers raised the alarm about the status of the shelter and its management, and founded the small not-yet-official-nonprofit "Rebel Rescue South Korea"! The precipitating event was the discovery of an illegal dog meat farm, and ensuing rescue of the dogs left to starve to death there. That story is better than any K-Drama; you can read it here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/leo-mendoza/asan-cheonsawon-shelter-uncovering-its-history/10158177093998695/
Today-- the dogs are safe... For now.
Veterinary care is costly, particularly since heartworm infection is rampant here in SK. Right now, the administrative team is struggling to make difficult decisions between veterinary care and dog food. We're extremely grateful to all of our volunteers and donors-- and we're asking you to please call on your network to help us too!
Heartworm treatment: 1 time cost, approximately $250 per dog
Heartworm preventatives: monthly cost, approximately $10 per dog
Annual vaccines: yearly cost, approximately $20 per dog
We currently have approximately 130 dogs at the shelter (fluctuates due to fosters/adoptions/rescues). We have 9 *confirmed* heartworm cases awaiting treatment-- and majority of the remaining dogs haven't been tested yet. We also have to consider emergency veterinary care, as well as (costly) compassionate euthanasia for the senior dogs who are suffering beyond help.
A conservative estimate for 2020 veterinary care alone is about $20,000. If the dogs do not get the vet treatment they need, they are at risk of dying a miserable, painful death by heartworm infection or other devastating illnesses. Can you help us help them?
We have vets and volunteers standing by, ready to get these dogs the care they desperately need! Every dollar helps-- please share this with everyone you know so we can save these dogs!
