Toby was found on a beach in Puerto Rico—skin and bones, heartworm positive, and looked close to death. We didn't think he'd make it. But we're not giving up on him. And neither should you.
Kenny is an Air Force Security Forces K9 veteran. Jasmine is a pre-vet student and vet tech with the same goal: to fight for animals who have nowhere else to go. Together, they run Morning Star Brands—a dog training, daycare, breeding, and boarding business built on community involvement and animal welfare.
Our new friend Monisha, a fellow veteran and dog rescuer in Puerto Rico, found Toby on a beach. He was emaciated, wounded, heartworm positive, and the local shelter system had no capacity to help. She reached out to us. Kenny and Jasmine acted immediately. Together with Monisha, Morning Star Brands helped facilitate Toby's transfer to the States—they're a partner in this mission, and the team is grateful for their work.
Toby is now in Kenny's care. He's gaining weight. He's progressing in training. He's showing the potential that was buried under trauma. But he still has heartworms that need treatment, and the financial cost of his emergency vet care and transport is threatening to stall his progress.
This isn't just about one dog. This is about a system that fails animals every day. Puerto Rico's shelter system is overwhelmed and underfunded. Dogs like Toby are left to die on beaches because there's nowhere else for them to go. Kenny and Jasmine are not here to point fingers—they're here to finish the job.
Toby isn't just another rescue. He's proof that abandoned and neglected dogs have a fighting chance when veterans step in. He's proof that the system can work when people refuse to let it fail.
We're raising funds to cover the critical costs of his transition. This isn't about paying a bill—it's about ensuring Toby survives his treatment, thrives in training, and finds the forever home he deserves. Every dollar goes directly to Toby's care: medical stabilization and ongoing veterinary care, behavioral training to make him adoptable, daily care during the recovery period, and air transport costs Morning Star Brands cannot cover. The total amount needed is $5,200.
Updates will be posted on his progress, treatment milestones, and adoption timeline. Transparency matters. Donors are not just contributing—they're partnering in a mission.
Toby survived harsh conditions on a beach in Puerto Rico. He survived being abandoned. With treatment he can survive heartworms. With your help he can thrive. Donate today. Share this campaign. Help prove that veterans don't leave anyone behind—not even dogs.
This mission will get done. With support, it gets done faster. Without it, it still gets done—but Toby waits longer, and that's a cost that can't be afforded.
Thank you for believing in Toby. Thank you for believing in the mission.
