DEEDS OF VALOR [an I.R.S. 503 (c)(3), tax exempt charity] was created to honor the memory of the Men and Women of Florence, OR who have served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.. Approximately 22 % of the citizens of our town are veterans.
The General Ben King Veterans Memorial Gateway is located at the entrance to the Florence Municipal Airport and is named after General Ben King who was a fighter pilot ace in World War II and spent his last years in our community.
The Memorial is also located adjacent to the Oregon Coast Military Museum which was established as a place to display the memorabilia and history of our many veterans.
It is fitting that we collaborate with our local VFW Post and the City of Florence to construct this tribute to our veterans and to create a respectful place that honors the heroes of our city.
If you are a Veteran or know a Veteran, then we ask you to donate to this worthy cause. A $25 donation, or more will go a long way toward obtaining our goal.
