Veterans helping Veterans - Ride Across America

Hello, My name is Chuck Miller. I am an Army Veteran who is blind. Over the last 18 years, as I slowly lost my sight, I realized that my life as I knew it would change forever. I also saw myself slowly withdrawing from life and being fearful of my future. Then one day I had the opportunity to become involved in adaptive sports through the Veterans Administration. That day I realized that I had begun a new journey, and life was offering me a chance to heal as well as help other veterans heal. As the years have gone on, I have immersed myself in adaptive sports, including snow skiing, kayaking, sailing, hiking, and cycling. It has been adaptive cycling where I had the opportunity to tandem cycle with some great folks. Bringing awareness to the world that, even though I am blind, I can set goals, achieve those goals, and provide an example to other blind veterans and disabled veterans that they can do the same.

I began a new cycling journey on Saturday. My long-time cycling friend Richard and I are cycling across America. We started cycling from St Augustine, Florida and will end in San Diego, California. This will be accomplished over 60 days through the southern corridor of the United States. This journey will be a huge personal success for me. But more importantly, I want to provide an example and communicate to any veteran or individual with a "disability" that you have the "ability" inside of you to adapt, accomplish and achieve your goals and dreams. Do you have to cycle across America to do this? Absolutely not. Adaptive sports of any kind cater to all, no matter your ability. What's important is to make the first step to get involved and reach out to me or others who can guide you on how to use your abilities and start new goals for your life.

You're probably wondering what I plan to do with the money raised. 100% of the funds raised will be given to adaptive sports programs within the Veterans Administration to grow their programs and Community veteran cycling programs. The VA saved my life, and I know that given the opportunity, anyone can face their fear and make their life better. Being involved in cycling in many parts of American has allowed me to share my experiences with others. One day, you may be that person sharing your experiences to help others. As they say, "It takes a village", and I am here to help you so please reach out to me or your local VA.

My hope for raising this money is to provide opportunities and raise awareness. Over the next 60 days, please think of our team as we peddle across America to benefit veterans. Please know we are grateful if you would like to donate to the many veterans who our ride will inspire.
