On December 27th, a buck ran into our vehicle. The buck was killed, and our vehicle sustained in excess of $21,000.00 in damage. A fire and rescue emergency company was dispatched. We sustained some non-transportable injuries, and thank God my wife, son, and I were not killed. However, we received a bill from the fire rescue service in excess of $2,700.00.
We are a retired couple living on a limited income. I am a veteran receiving a small disability pension. Our disabled son lives with us, and we are his caregivers. We don't have the funds to pay this amount. We have appealed to the town to discount the amount or if they could provide a compassionate waiver. They turned down both requests. Our auto insurance has also refused to pay this bill as out-of-town fire and rescue service bills are not within the policy limits.
