Father Detained by ICE During Green Card Interview — Brother of U.S. Army Veteran Needs Urgent Help

My name is Aidar. I am a U.S. Army veteran and former USAID project associate, recently laid off due to federal funding cuts. I am writing this on behalf of my brother, who was unexpectedly detained by ICE on April 29 during what was supposed to be a routine interview to adjust his immigration status at the USCIS office in Chatsworth, California.

My brother is not a criminal. He is a father, a husband, a taxpayer, and a truck driver who has lived and worked in this country for more than a decade. He was attending his adjustment of status interview, the final step in becoming a lawful permanent resident, when ICE agents took him into custody without warning. He has valid work authorization, an approved I 130 petition, and has done everything by the book.

His U.S. citizen wife and 2 year old daughter were left in shock, and for days we had no information about where he was taken. At first, we had no contact with him. He has since called from the Adelanto ICE Processing Facility, but we still do not have full information about the charges or the reasoning behind his detention. There was no explanation, no warrant, and no accountability. This traumatic event has devastated our family.

We are doing everything we can to resolve this case and keep him home where he belongs. I lost my job in February due to the foreign aid freeze and, like many families, we are struggling to cover the sudden financial burden of a legal emergency. We have raised 10,000 dollars so far as a family and paid 2,500 dollars to secure legal representation. His bond hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, and the bond could range between 10,000 and 25,000 dollars. Additional legal fees will be required to defend against separation and potential removal proceedings.

Deportation is not an option. His life is here. His wife, his child, his work, and his community are all in the United States. He is known among his fellow drivers for being kind, dependable, and always helping others. He deserves a fair chance to fight his case with dignity and legal support.

We are asking for your help to raise 35,000 dollars to cover:
• Immigration attorney fees and legal filings
• A potential bond of 10,000 to 25,000 dollars
• Defense against family separation
• Basic support for his wife and daughter while he remains detained

If we do not reach our goal, we will take out loans to cover the rest, but we are hoping your support can ease that burden.

We will provide periodic updates and transparent summaries of how funds are being used to ensure that every contribution is used directly for legal and family support.

Every dollar helps. Every share brings us closer. Every act of solidarity reminds us that justice still matters.

Thank you for standing with us.

With gratitude,
Aidar
