Supporting Ms. Lula & Veterans
I'm turning 50 years old and I'm so excited. For years, I hosted international students in my home from all over the world. This experience was great and I love them very much.
But this next chapter of my life, I seek to help others as much as I can more than ever before. My heart is being called to my fellow Veterans, so I'm establishing Veteran Family Home which is an intergenerational home, with a focus on our aging Veterans, providing a family environment for Veterans (as well as their family) seeking housing with a family style experience.
As most of you know, I am a Veteran and I also work as an Advance Care Planning Consultant for Sharp Healthcare here in San Diego, CA. On a daily basis I sit down with patients to discuss their care needs as they age and/or have chronic illnesses. Many of them are without family, away from their family, and many are Veterans. My heart goes out to them every time I enter the space.
I recently moved and desire to be a blessing to our Veterans in need. I've slept in my car many nights, so I know what it's like to not have shelter. Evidence shows that people typically do much better with family support (which isn't necessarily biological family), good food, and laughter.
At Veteran Family Home we seek to provide just that and more. I have 2 spare rooms where I plan to support needy Veterans. I am also adding additional living space so we can have room for more.
This is where I need your help! If you could support this endeavor with any amount, I would greatly appreciate it. Please check out our website https://veteranfamilyhome.com/.
I know it's my 50th birthday, but I rather you give to this cause so we can move forward with construction and help more Veterans.
I'm doing all this while caring for my mom, Ms. Lula. Caregiving is no easy task, but I'm honored to do so. Ms. Lula's been with me for over 4 years now and though she's declined functionally, she's still as feisty as ever. I couldn't do it without the support of an awesome team of caregivers. They help me care for Ms. Lula as if she was their own mother. We are blessed to have such dedicated support, but they don't work for free.
Caregiving is expensive. And though I do get some assistance, much of the funds to cover this cost comes out of my pocket. So if supporting Veterans is not your thing, then please help me with the expenses with caring for Momma!
I have amazing friends and family who often ask "how's your mother". Thank you for checking in on her. But for my 50th birthday if you could support Ms. Lula I would again appreciate it.
Thanking you in advance for anything you can do.
