Veteran Needs Immediate Help with Leaking Roof

Donation protected
Phil Arnold is a 7-year, US Army combat veteran who deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2010-2011. After serving his country honorably, he now dedicates his time to helping veterans as a program coordinator at Veterans Path to Hope, a veteran nonprofit in Crystal Lake, IL. He is also a single father who enjoys spending time with his son.

On May 4th, 2023, Phil bought a house in order to provide a safe, clean place to raise his son. During the initial inspection, a leak was found in the roof. The sellers, who are house flippers and investors, agreed to repair the roof and it was put into the contract. The final inspection was on a sunny afternoon and showed no sign of a leak. After Phil moved in, the first rain showed water dripping from the ceiling. As it turns out, the sellers sent someone over who sprayed an aerosol sealant on the area but did not fix the problem. This has caused more damage and a possible mold problem between the ceiling and the roof. Upon further investigation, a roofer has identified a damaged vent as well. All of these issues have created an unsafe environment for Phil’s son, who would sleep upstairs. While Phil pursues litigation against the sellers for fraud and breach of contract, which may take more than a year, the roof and ceiling are getting worse. Phil has gotten estimates from professional roofers ranging from $8,000 to $12,000 for just the roof. He also has to get the vent and chimney stack fixed, the ceiling repaired, any damage in between repaired, and any mold removed, which will cost an additional $5.000-7,000. These are all expenses that he can not afford as a single father. The military man in him makes it too hard to ask people for help. This is a good man trying to provide for his son and forge a good life for himself. That’s where we come in. We are asking on Phil’s behalf for some help in the form of donations. If you can help with a small donation or a large donation, it all helps. Every dollar counts. Once his roof has been repaired and all expenses are paid, Phil said that any extra money will be donated to Veterans Path to Hope to help fund their programs that assist veterans with housing, food, employment, and many other issues that plague those who have served their country. We want to thank you in advance for your generosity.
