My name is Trevor Colleton, and I’m the owner of Colleton Carolina Ranch LLC, a veteran-owned sustainable farm in North Carolina. I also proudly serve in the North Carolina National Guard and previously worked for the U.S. Postal Service.

On September 18th, I suffered a severe horse training accident that broke my entire left ribcage, cracked a vertebra, shattered my collarbone, and punctured my lung. I’ve spent weeks in and out of Duke Hospital, and now I’ve been told I’ll need surgery to repair my collarbone.

Because of these injuries, I can’t farm or work for several months. The government shutdown has temporarily paused Guard pay, and I lost my USPS job because of the accident. Without any steady income, we can’t afford to stay on our leased farmland, and we’re now moving everything into an apartment while trying to hold onto what little we can.

We’ve had to sell or give away most of our livestock and horses, which has been heartbreaking. But I haven’t given up. I plan to use my VA home loan next year to finally buy land of our own and rebuild Colleton Carolina Ranch from the ground up — stronger and more independent than before.

I’ve always been someone who works hard, serves my country, and takes care of my family. But right now, I need help getting through this rough season — to cover rent, utilities, groceries, and basic expenses until I’m cleared to work again and can start rebuilding.

If we can raise enough, we’ll be able to keep our ranch’s name alive and hopefully get back to the farmers markets next season instead of starting over from nothing.
